Day 75 - March 16th

Until we are confident that the ground is fairly dry, we are tending to stick to routes which we know will not be muddy, so today we repeated a walk we last did in December. We walked the 5 mile loop from Stanstead St Margarets to Ware and back again.

We walked the familiar route alongside the River Lee Navigation passing many canal boats, several locks and quite a few swans, ducks and geese.

We took a short detour to walk a little way into the Amwell Nature Reserve.

We then carried on towards Ware.

At Ware, we stopped briefly for drinks before heading back towards Stanstead St Margarets alongside the New River Path.

There were some beautiful Lantern Roses in a flowerbed in Ware town centre.

At Great Amwell, we decided to have a walk around the churchyard. The churchyard is very old and contains lots of ornate Victorian graves and mausoleums.

The grave of Harold Abraham, 1924 Olympic Cham[pion featured in the film Chariots of Fire can also be found in the churchyard.
