Day 223 - August 11th

Today was the start of the Rolex 2013 Fastnet RaceThe Fastnet Race takes place every two years. The race starts at Cowes, leaves the Solent through The Needles Channel, follows the southern coastline of England westward down the English Channel, before rounding Land's End. It crosses the Irish Sea, rounds the Fastnet Rock  off the southwest coast of Ireland and then returns on a similar course round the Scilly Islands before finishing at Plymouth

We walked down to the waterfront to watch the start of the race.

After watching the start of the Fastnet Race we had a walk round the Cowes Food Show which was held near the Cowes Yacht Haven.

In the evening, we drove to Ryde for a walk along the beach. We walked to the Apply Tower.

( The huge 40m long black trimaran, Spindrift II shown in my first photo is the worlds largest trimaran and fastest offshore race boat. It was the eventual winner of the 2013 Fastnet race.)
