Day 229 - August 17th

Today we spent the day on the beach at Pembrey. We were surprised when we arrived to see hundred of Jellyfish stranded on the beach at the high tide line. There were Jelly fish for as far as the eye could see. We saw a single Jellyfish the other day at Ferryside but to see so many at one time was quite a sight and rather sad too. Having searched the Internet it appears that this has happened several times previously this year. The Jellyfish are Barrell Jellyfish and the largest type of Jellyfish found in British waters.

Many that we saw were as big as dustbin lids. Warmer weather is drawing them close to the shore and when the tide goes out they are left stranded on the beach. They are generally harmless but we weren't taking any chances and carefully stepped past them on our way to the sea.

Looks like a great day on the beach - no swimming in all those jellyfish though?
