Day 224 - August 12th

Today was Wayne's birthday so the day was started with cards and presents being opened.

We then drove to Bodnant Gardens near Colwyn Bay. Bodnant is a National Trust Property founded in 1874 and developed by five generations of one family before being handed over to the National Trust in 1949. The garden spans 80 acres of hillside and includes formal terraces,  shrub borders stocked with plants from around the world, The Dell, a gorge and a waterfall.

Obviously the flowers were beautiful and we spotted a few creatures too.

After leaving Bodnant we decided to drive back to the cottage via the fanous Llanberis Pass. The Llanberis Pass carries the main road (A4086) from the south-east to Llanberis, over Pen-y-Pass, between the mountain ranges of the Glyderau and Snowdon. The summit of the pass is 359 m (1,178 ft) above sea level. The road descends to Llanberis and the valley is narrow and steep-sided, with rocky crags and boulders on either side of the road

Photos do not do justice to the amazing scenery.

On returning to the cottage we continued celebrating Wayne's birthday with cake.

Lara chose sparklers for the cake....... and a rather large musical candle which we had to take outside to light for fear of setting smoke alarms off!
