Day 173 - June 22nd

This evening Wayne and I went for a walk over the fields in search of wild orchids.

This year we went on our hunt a bit later in the month than in other years and whilst the orchids weren't plentiful, we did manage to spot one or two.

The Bee Orchids were certainly past their best and the ones we did find had been almost smothered by grasses and difficult to photograph.

We also spotted a Common Spotted Orchid, although once again it was past its best.

Day 153 - June 2nd

Today the Jubilee Celebrations Weekend began. The special extended bank holiday weekend is an opportunity for communities and people throughout the country to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.

Today in London the Queen's Birthday Parade was held followed by Trooping of the Colour. Afterwards there was a Platinum Jubilee Flypast featuring 70 aircraft to coincide with the Royal Family’s appearance on the balcony at Buckingham Palace. The flypast included a Lancaster bomber, two Spitfires and two Hurricanes, all operated by the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and we were very lucky to see them as they flew back to their base flying over our village and almost directly over our house.
