Day 212 - July 31st

Another walk over the fields tonight. The farmers have already harvested some of the crops.

Some of the fields have even been ploughed ready for the next crop.

And, some of the fields are waiting to be harvested.

In the hedgerows berries are starting to appear.....

..... and there were hazelnuts too.

We saw this plant and on googling it, found that is is Burdock, the root of which is used in the Dandelion & Burdock drink. I don't think I've ever seen the plant before.

Day 211 - July 30th

Today we walked another part of the Letchworth Greenway - Manor Farm to Baldock, linking up two sections we had previously walked.

Although parts of the walk were close to the A1(M) it was one of the more scenic sections of the Greenway.

We walked past fields of crops and through wooded areas.

We saw quiet a few butterflies and I was able to photograph this beautiful Peacock butterfly.

One of the less scenic aspects of the walk was the large number of electricity pylons we saw. The overhead power cables in the area are currently being replaced and we passed huge reels of cable and on the wires saw the equipment which had been fitted to the pylons ready for the work to begin.

Day 204 - July 23rd

This morning we went for a walk to Ivinghoe Beacon and along a small section of the Ridgeway. After a brief spot of rain at the start of the walk, it then turned out to be a lovely morning.

The hill is an ancient signal point, which was used in times of crisis to send messages across long distances. It is also the site of an early Iron Age hillfort protected as a scheduled monument.

The views from the top were spectacular.

The Ridgeway is an ancient trackway described as Britain's oldest road. For at least 5,000 years travellers have used the Ridgeway.

Day 200 - July 19th

Whilst the rain makes the grass grown, unfortunately it also makes the weeds grow. Buttercups, Daisies, Clover and Dandelions all decorate the lawn.

Day 198 - July 17th

Whilst I don't like the rain we're having at the moment, the garden loves it and the Busy Lizzie plants in particular are doing well from it.
