I recently bought a bag of Maynards Bassetts "Peace Babies" which are being sold in aid of Help For Heroes. I wasn't sure what the "Peace Babies" would look like. I thought maybe they would be shaped like little soldiers so was disappointed when i opened the bag to find that they were just regular "Jelly Babies". I was intrigued as to why they were called Peace babies so did a little bit of research. It appears that in 1918 Bassett's in Sheffield produced "Peace Babies" to mark the end of World War I. Production was then suspended during World War II due to wartime shortages but in 1953 the product was relaunched as "Jelly Babies".
