Day 175 - June 23rd

This evening the prime minister announced the easing of lockdown restrictions. From 4 July pubs, restaurants and hairdressers can reopen. From the same day two households can meet in any setting as long as they social distance and people can now holiday in the UK with the reopening of hotels, holiday parks, holiday cottages, etc.

Day 173 - June 21st

Today we had a family outing. Wrest Park has recently re-opened to the public and so we booked a visit for this afternoon.

It was lovely to get out and experience some normality after having nowhere to go for so long.

It didn't seem at all crowded and everyone stuck to the social distancing rules.

It was lovely and sunny and we had a lovely couple of hours wandering around the grounds.

A lot of the usual planting of flower beds hadn't been carried out this year due to the ongoing pandemic but the rose garden was looking beautiful.

We finished out visit with an ice-cream from a van parked outside.

Day 171 - June 19th

Poor Tux had a trip to the vet today. He got into a scrap with another cat and ended up with a bite wound on his face. Not wanting to visit the vet unnecessarily, I emailed them a photograph and they recommended I took Tux to them to be cleaned up and possibly have an antibiotic injection. Due to the pandemic I wasn't allowed into the veterinary hospital. Tux was collected from my car by a vet and a nurse and taken inside to be assessed and treated. \i them paid by telephone and Tux was then returned to the car. It all worked very well. Thankfully he is OK and none the worse for his injury.

Day 170 - June 18th

Alstroemeria flowers in my Mum & Dad's garden.

Day 169 - June 17th

For the last few evenings we have seen and heard some very noisy owls in the evening. Tonight we could clearly see them. At one point there were three owls on the chimney pots of the church next door, one in a nearby tree and one on a TV aerial. They made such a noise calling to each other! We couldn't make out what type of owls they were so I recorded them and sent the recording to the English School of Falconry which is based about 9 miles from us. They sent back to say that we have a family of Tawny Owls.

Day 166 - June 14th

This evening we walked to the War Memorial to see 'Shilly - The Coronavirus Snake'.

A snake has been created around the base of the War Memorial made from painted stones. Some stones have been specifically painted for this whilst some are stones which have been discovered hidden around the village and have been placed at to the War Memorial.

Lara was pleased to see a couple of the stones which she had painted and hidden several weeks ago.

It has been suggested that eventually the stones which make up 'Shilliy' will be permanently set in concrete outside the new community building which is due to be built soon.

Day 164 - June 12th

Due to the lockdown, we were unable to visit a nursery or garden centre to buy plants for our hanging baskets this year. We instead ordered some plants in April online. It was a bit of a gamble because we didn't know really what size the plants would be when we received them or exactly when they would be delivered. The plants were however fine and are now doing well in the baskets.
