Day 278 - October 5th
After the cherry tomatoes were a disaster this year I had hoped that the other tomatoes in the greenhouse would fair better. They were planted rather late and despite there now being lots of tomatoes on the vines, they will not ripen. Unless these beauties ripen soon I think I may have to explore the world of green tomato chutney! My mum suggested picking them and putting them on the window sill to ripen. Does anyone know if that works?

Well at least the green tomatoes look pretty! I don't know know how to make them ripen - warmth might help but is it the sunlight that really changes the colours by photosynthesis?
When I worked for a greengrocers in the 60's we put green tomatoes in brown paper bags to ripen and that worked well, trouble would be getting hold of some today!
I think bananas are supposed to give off a gas that ripens things! But so have ago with green tomato chutney, it's gorgeous!
