Day 220 - August 8th

Today we just felt like going for a quiet walk. Several times during our stay we had passed Parc Glynllifon. It wasn't well advertised but we decided to visit and were really pleased we did as it was a real hidden gem.

Glynllifon is an old estate The former home of Lord Newborough. Whilst the mansion house is now in private ownership, the Grade I listed historic gardens, with  rare trees and plants and woodland walk along the river with follies and sculptures is owned by the local authority and is open to the public.

Sadly the mansion was in a state of disrepair. It must have been spectacular in its heyday. According to the internet, its owners do appear to want to bring it back into use.

There were lots of follies, etc hidden in the garden and each corner we went round we found something new.

We were surprised to find an an amphitheatre made of Welsh slate with a waterside stage area. It looked really old but was actually built in modern times.

In the middle of a very green pond was an out stretched arm!

There were paintings on walls.

Among the trees there were lots of plants and flowers to see too.

After our walk we retired to the cafe for a drink and bite to eat.
