Day 133 - May 12th

Today was sunny so we decided to head to Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden at South Walsham.

We have visited before on several occasions, but only ever in Autumn. Never in Spring.

In Autumn, we look for fungi but today the place looked quite different with lots of beautiful flowers.

There were lots and lots of stunning Rhododendrons and Azaleas in flower.

There were also the odd Camellia.

At the moment the flowers which Fairhaven are most proud of are the Candelabra Primulas which are found throughout the Water Garden in various colours.

We wondered round the grounds and round each corner there was something different to see.

We were able to get tickets for a boat ride on the private broad and then onto the River Bure and past the ruins of St Benets Abbey.

Later we drove to Great Yarmouth. We found online details of a 'Town Wall Walk' and decided to follow this. Not much of the wall survives to this day but we thought it would be nice to see a side to Great Yarmouth we don't usually see.

We parked near Great Yarmouth Minster.

Nearby is King Henry's Tower and the North East Tower.

Beside the river is the North West Tower which is in a better condition to the other towers.

At the north end of the market place we found Anna Sewell House where the author of Black Beauty was born.

Finally we found the Fisherman's Hospital which was built in 1702 and now provides a home for retired fishermen.

We ended our walk on the seafront with an ice-cream.
