Day 289 - October 16th

Today the sun and sky turned a strange colour. I tried, not very successfully, to photograph the eerie yellow sky we experienced.

Professional photographers had better luck capturing the apocalyptic colour and these next two photos are from the Independent online.

The strange sky was a result of the bizarre weather passing over the UK. Hurricane Ophelia has whipped up storms, carrying with them sand from southern Europe and Africa that was kept up in the sky. Debris from forest fires in Portugal and Spain are also believed to have added to the effect.

We are lucky to have the internet and TV to explain what caused the unusual phenomenon.  You can only wonder what our ancestors many centuries ago must have thought if they had seen such a sight. They must surely have thought the world was ending.
