Day 297 - October 24th

We started today with a visit to Potter Heigham. Potter Heigham is one of the major boating centres on the Norfolk Broads and many boating holidays or day trips start from here.

The village is well known for its medieval bridge that crosses the river and dates back to 1385. It is very low with a clearance of just 7 feet at its highest. A bridge pilot is available to help boat skipper through in the summer months. We saw one boat pass beneath the arch whilst we were watching. He had obviously done it before because he passed under with ease, ducking at just the right moment to avoid hitting his head.

After our brief visit we decided to go for a walk on Sea Palling beach.

The tide was higher today than when we visited yesterday and the offshore reefs were unreachable, surrounded by water.

The sea was very choppy with the waves crashing onto the rocks. Lara spent some time trying photograph the precise moment when the waves hit the rocks sending water spraying into the air. It wasn't easy.

Further on we came upon the old timber and steel groynes which at the end of their life were replaced with the rocks.

Later, we walked to the village pub which was conveniently just across the road from our holiday cottage.

Wayne taught Lara how to play pool.
