Day 296 - October 23rd

Today we went to Horsey. Between October and February, the beach at Horsey is home to a colony of grey seals that come on the beach to breed.

Some years ago we visited the seal colony and we were keen to visit again.

Since our previous visit a seal viewing area has been created which is accessed from the coast path which runs behind the dunes.

Having parked in the car park we walked for about 20 minutes along the coast path until we reached a gap in the sea defences where we could access the beach.

Once we got onto the sand we spotted a group of seals sunning themselves near the waters edge.

Everyone was careful to following the guidance and not get nearer than ten meters to the seals and the seals didn't seem at all bothered by the spectators.

We then rejoined the coast path and walked a little further to the official viewing area where the main colony could be seen. Apart from one other family, no one else walked this far and they therefore missed out on seeing the other 200+ more seals on the shoreline.

It isn't easy to see from this next photo but beneath each arrow there's a large group of seals.

We only had our phones with us to take photos so Lara improvised by taking some photos through the binoculars!

After watching the seals for quite some time we drove back to the cottage and on our way back past Horsey Windpump.

The windpump is owned by the National Trust and has recently undergone substantial refurbishment.
