Day 221 - August 9th

After yesterdays rather wet day, today was hot an sunny and we drove to Lyme Regis. We parked at the park and ride and caught the bus to the seafront.

It was very busy with lots of families enjoying the sunshine.

We walked along Marine parade, stopping to have a bite to eat and drink in one of the cafes. We had the most delicious Carrot and Pineapple cake!

After our brief pit-stop, we continued walking until we reached The Cobb. Lyme Regis' harbour wall is called The Cobb and was built as a breakwater to protect ships and the town. Several film and TV programmes have been filmed at The Cobb including Netflix adaptation of Jane Austen's Persuasion and 1980's film The French Lieutenant's Woman starring Meryl Streep.

Located on The Cobb is Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium.

Visitors to the aquarium are able to hand feed the huge shoal of grey mullet. We  submerged our clenched hands containing food into the giant tanks and let the fish gently suck and prod at our fingers and thumbs. It was quite an experience.

After visiting the aquarium, we wondered back along the seafront. These dogs made from welly-boots outside the RNLI shop were cute.

And, I loved this colourful collection of kayaks.

Our visit was concluded with ice-creams.

Later, back in Weymouth we walked to the harbour for a drink. Every two hours during the summer the town bridge opens to let tall boats through and whilst we were sat outside a pub we saw several boats pass through.
