Day 303 - October 30th

Whilst on holiday I bought this mug. It will only be used at Halloween so I thought I should use it today to make the most of it.

Day 302 - October 29th

This morning we walked the Pirton loop - 4.5 miles walk from Shillington to Pirton and back.

It was very quiet and we saw no one during the walk.

Day 301 - October 28th

I was really surprised today when I looked out of the kitchen window to see that the Spiraea bush in the back garden was in flower. This usually flowers in Spring so why it's suddenly produced some new flowers now I have no idea.

Day 299 - October 26th

Today was my birthday but it was a very rainy day so we had a slow start to the day, spending time in the cottage.

When the rain briefly stopped we decided to visit The Time & Tide Museum in Great Yarmouth. We have intended visiting for several years and it seemed a good choice of somewhere to go on a wet day.

The museum is a maritime and fishing museum and was established in 2005. It is housed in a former Victorian herring curing factory known as Tower Curing Works, and is now part of Maritime Heritage East, a partnership of over 30 maritime museums in the East of England.

My favourite part of the museum tells the story of the Great Yarmouth 'Rows'. Great Yarmouth formally comprised a number of 'Rows'-  narrow, cramped streets within the city's medieval walls.

Visitors can peep inside a fisherman house, the chemist shop or other property in the recreation of one of the 145 19th century Rows

Elsewhere there were exhibitions about the fishing industry, herring production and life in bygone Great Yarmouth.

On leaving the museum I noticed two amazing murals on neighbouring property walls.

After visiting the museum we drove to Waxham Great Barn for our daily cake ration!

Today's cake of choice was Coconut and Lemon Cake.

We ended the day with dinner at the local pub followed by drinks and a game or two of cards.

Day 298 - October 25th

Today started with a walk on one of my other favourite Norfolk beaches - Sea Palling.

Sea Palling is a bit off the beaten track but is a really lovely sandy beach.

The 9 artificial offshore reefs created as part of a flood prevention scheme offer protection and the curving beach has been awarded Blue Flag status for its clean waters and is rarely over-crowded.

Happisburgh Lighthouse in the distance

In the afternoon, we headed to Great Yarmouth for another game of crazy golf.

Crazy Golf was followed (of course) by cake, this time at Merrivale Tearooms. Merrivale Tearooms were established in 1903 and claim to be the oldest tearooms in Great Yarmouth.
