Today was my birthday but it was a very rainy day so we had a slow start to the day, spending time in the cottage.
When the rain briefly stopped we decided to visit The Time & Tide Museum in Great Yarmouth. We have intended visiting for several years and it seemed a good choice of somewhere to go on a wet day.
The museum is a maritime and fishing museum and was established in 2005. It is housed in a former Victorian herring curing factory known as Tower Curing Works, and is now part of Maritime Heritage East, a partnership of over 30 maritime museums in the East of England.
My favourite part of the museum tells the story of the Great Yarmouth 'Rows'. Great Yarmouth formally comprised a number of 'Rows'- narrow, cramped streets within the city's medieval walls.
Visitors can peep inside a fisherman house, the chemist shop or other property in the recreation of one of the 145 19th century Rows
Elsewhere there were exhibitions about the fishing industry, herring production and life in bygone Great Yarmouth.
On leaving the museum I noticed two amazing murals on neighbouring property walls.
Today's cake of choice was Coconut and Lemon Cake.
We ended the day with dinner at the local pub followed by drinks and a game or two of cards.
