Day 287 - October 14th

This afternoon we went for a walk in Ampthill Great Park.

Lime Walk was looking very autumnal with lots of fallen leaves and lots of families were out enjoying the sunshine and dry weather.

There are a tonne of chestnut trees and the floor in lots of places were covered in the prickly husks.

Other parts of the park were still very green.

There are two memorial crosses in Ampthill Great Park. I have blogged about this before.

The Duke of Bedford Memorial Cross commemorates the 707 men of the 2,335 who were trained at the ‘Bedfordshire Training Depot’ in Ampthill Great Park, who lost their lives in the first world war.

My Dad's uncle, Harry Ansell who was killed in 1918 in France., is one of the soldiers named on the memorial.
