This morning we drove to Llanberis in Snowdonia with a view to having a walk and ride on the Lake Railway, but once parked thought we'd see if we could get tickets for the Snowdon Mountain Railway instead. We were pleased when we managed to get tickets for the 3pm journey. Later, we were looking round the railway gift shop and my phone rang. It was the Mountain Railway to ask if they could change our booking to 3.30pm because there weren't enough seats in the same compartment on the 3pm train for us all to sit together. Whilst we were deciding, they then said that due to cancellation 4 seats together on the available on the 2pm train had come available so we agreed to change to the 2pm train.
We had a quick walk though Parc Padarn and a bite to eat and a drink at the Lake Railway Cafe and then boarded the train at 2pm.
We were surprised to find our seats (compartment A) were right at the front of the train directly behind the guide. We couldn't have had better seats. When we made the same journey in 2019, Snowdon ha been shrouded in mist and half way up the mountain we lost all visibility. Today it was bright and sunny and the views were spectacular
Due to essential work on the the top portion of the railway not being completed due to the pandemic and most of the workforce being furloughed, the top section of the railway track is closed this year and so the train only went three quarters of the way to Clogwyn Station but the ride was still really good and the views from Clogwyn amazing.
After Returning to Llanberis we then decided to drive back to the cottage via the Llanberis Pass with saw more wonderful views.
