Day 222 - August 10th

Today we decided to visit Llandudno.

We parked just off the seafront and headed for the Cable Cars which take you from Happy Valley to the top of the Great Orme.

We walked along the prom passing a statue of The Mad Hatter which is part of a Llandudno town trail. In 1861 eight year old Alice Pleasance Liddell (the real 'Alice' in Wonderland) spent the first of many summer holidays in Llandudno. Her holiday home ‘Penmorfa’, was built on Llandudno’s West Shore. The Liddells were close family friends with Charles Dodgson, who wrote the books under his more famous pen-name, Lewis Carroll. It’s long been speculated that Carroll visited the Liddells at the holiday home they built here, and was inspired by Alice and her adventures in Llandudno.

Walking up to the Cable Cars we got great views of the Grade II listed pier and shoreline. Opened in 1886, the pier is the longest in Wales and the fifth longest in England and Wales.

The queue was very long. After queuing for about 40mins, but were still no where near the front of the queue, the Cables Car operators suddenly decided to stop rides for the day - due to the heat.

Frustrated by the time wasted queuing for the cable cars we bought ice creams and then had a quick walk round the Botanic Garden at Happy Valley.

(Another statue from the Town Trail)

We then headed for the Tramway only to find massive queues there too! We didn't want to queue again so we went for a walk along the pier, had a quick look round the shops, had a drink and then headed back to the cottage.

In the evening we drove to Dinas Dinlle beach to watch the sunset over the sea.
