Day 220 - August 7th

Today we ventured onto the Isle of Anglesey.

Described as one of North Wales best kept secrets, Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens are situated at the side of the Menai Strait, hidden from view near to Menai Bridge.

In 1996, the present owner bought the 200 acre Plas Cadnant Estate and work began on the restoration of the historic garden and grounds.

Former owners of Plas Cadnant were related to the Tremayne family of Heligan House, now famous for its Lost Gardens.

The secret valley garden has waterfalls and river.

It was a lovely warm day and it was nice to wander round the garden looking at the plants.

Whilst on Anglesey we also visited Beaumaris Castle.

Beaumaris Castle is often referred to as the “Greatest Castle Never Built.” Construction on the castle began in 1295 but was never completed. Edward I’s battles with the Scottish diverted attention and funds away from the project, and when work on Beaumaris Castle ceased in 1330, the castle was only about two-thirds finished.

Beaumaris Castle is also thought to be one of the most expensive castles ever built in British history relative to its time, with only Caernarfon Castle costing more to complete.

When we arrived back at the cottage it was only early evening, so Wayne & I decided to go for a walk. We decided to walk up Mount Cilgwyn which is the mountain beside which our cottage sits. It was very blustery and a little misty at the top but the views on the way up, and at the summit, were still stunning.
