Day 222 - August 9th

Today was gloriously sunny so we decided to drive to Llandudno. Last time we visited Llandudno we tried to ride the cable cars which take you to the top of the Great Orme. On that occasion the cable cars weren't operating due to the heat. Today we decided instead to ride the tram to the top of the Great Orme, which was a good choice because it appeared that the cable cars weren't operating today either!

The Great Orme is a limestone headland - 2 miles long, 1 mile wide and rises 679 feet above sea level. It is a tourist attraction with the cable cars, Victorian tramway, walking routes and a mining museum.

We got to the tram station in the town at about mid day and there was quite a queue of people wanting to get on. We didn't have to wait long though and were soon on our way.

The views of the Great Orme and Llandudno from the tram were amazing.

Halfway up (and down) we had to change to another tram which took us the rest of the way.

Once at the summit we were able to look around, visit the exhibition in the Visitor Centre and have something to eat in the Summit Complex. Outside the visitor centre there was a bronze sculpture of a Kashmiri goat. Since the 19th century a herd of Kashmiri goats have roamed the Great Orme and there are currently 130 of them.

It was very blustery at the summit.

After looking around and having a bite to eat, we got back on the tram and returned down to the town.

Back in Llandudno we went for a brief walk on the pier and a ride on the big wheel.

I also tried my first ever bubble tea.
