The park has been created from the area of the old quarry where stone was collected to use in building the huge breakwater at Holyhead in the mid 1800s. Holyhead breakwater is 1.7m long and the longest breakwater in the UK.
Signs of quarrying in days gone by remain as well as remnants of an old brickworks which were part of the quarry and there are nature trails round the park
During the summer months the local model boat club sail their boats on the pond and we sat for a while to watch them.
One of the trails leads to the summit of Holyhead Mountain. We decided not to walk all the way to the top but we did climb to quite a height to get a good view of the coastline and park below.
Our reward after a long walk were ice-creams, eaten in the sunshine.
